The Roselle Police Department is currently staffed by fifty-seven (57) sworn law enforcement officers, six (6) civilian Communications Officers with civilian personnel rounding out the clerical staff.
The Department is divided into several divisions, each with a different responsibility and area of excellence.
By working together, the different divisions are able to investigate crimes and accidents, respond to emergencies, and prevent many illegal acts from ever occurring.

PATROL DIVISION
The Patrol Division is the largest division. These are the officers that the public is used to seeing every day. Patrol officers are recognizable in uniforms and patrol the town in marked police vehicles. The Patrol Division is responsible for traffic enforcement, preventative patrol, and initiating criminal investigations. Working in partnership with the community, the Patrol Division is committed to providing the highest quality of police services to t he residents of the Borough of Roselle by promoting community safety to overcome any challenges which threaten the quality of life within the borough.
All patrol officers are trained in first aid and emergency lifesaving techniques (including electrical defibrillation and in the use of Naloxone) to assist sick or injured residents of the borough.
DETECTIVE BUREAU
The Detective Bureau (including the Juvenile Bureau and Narcotics Bureau) is responsible for all follow-up criminal investigations. These duties include case preparation, interview and interrogations, processing crime scenes, evidence vault management and identifying, collecting and processing evidence. The Juvenile Bureau investigates juvenile offenses and assists with the Community Policing Unit’s D.A.R.E Program.
The Juvenile Bureau is the liaison to the various schools within the Boroughs public and private school districts. The Narcotics Bureau is responsible for identifying, investigating and apprehending individuals and/or organizations that are involved in the illicit trafficking of controlled substances ensuring compliance with the State’s criminal code as well as the Borough’s Municipal Code. In addition to criminal investigations, the Detective Bureau has a designated Humane Law Enforcement Officer who follows up with any reports of animal cruelty.
TRAFFIC BUREAU
The Traffic Bureau's responsibility is to provide professional traffic safety services within the Borough of Roselle. These efforts are accomplished through education, technology, and enforcement. To reduce incidents of impaired or dangerous driving, we have to change behavior and guide people to make the right decisions. By combining both education and enforcement to hold people accountable for their actions helps us to be effective in reaching our goal.
The Traffic Bureau has implemented cutting-edge technology in the form of electronic summonses, radar speed enforcement, and data gathering software. We continue to be heavily involved in educational efforts that are geared not only towards combating impaired driving at the adult level, but at teen drivers as well.
We recognize that although it is extremely important to educate drivers on the dangers of impaired driving, we also understand that it is equally important to focus on the hazards of distracted driving and the importance of keeping all vehicle occupants safe. To this end, the Traffic Bureau devotes time to educating our drivers on the importance of not allowing anything to distract them while driving, the proper installation of safety seats, and the proper use of seatbelts.
COMMUNITY ORIENTATED POLICING (COP)
Community Orientated Policing (COP) adopts the philosophy of promoting community, police and government partnerships. COP offers numerous programs and services designed to improve the quality of life within our community.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
The Roselle Police Department is committed to providing the best possible public service to the citizens it serves.
The Professional Standards Unit is responsible for ensuring that the members of the police department meet the highest standards of professional conduct, integrity, and ethical performance.
The Professional Standards Unit is responsible for the investigations of all complaints against the members of the department. The unit is also tasked with administering the disciplinary process for the police department. If you feel strongly about the conduct of an officer, positively or negatively, please let us know.
